Don and Belinda Carringer grew up in Western North Carolina, where farming has long been part of their family heritage. Don has farmed his entire life, learning firsthand from both of his grandparents on their family farms. Both Don and Belinda were active in 4-H, where their appreciation for agriculture continued to grow. Don has always had a deep passion for farming, while Belinda has found her own special niche within the endeavor. They began selling at farmers markets in 2008 and, a few years later, expanded to providing fresh produce, jams, jellies, relishes, and honey to high-end restaurants. In 2012, Don began keeping bees and now manages approximately 30–35 hives during the summer months. In 2022, they purchased a nine-acre farm in Altamont near Newland and moved to the High Country full time. Today, Don grows a wide variety of vegetables, along with red and white dent corn used for stone-ground cornmeal and grits. Belinda crafts fresh jams, jellies, relishes, and apple butter using time-honored methods. What they once referred to as a hobby has grown into something much more—and looking back, it brings a smile to their faces.
