FAQ: Creating Your Listing

How long will it take to create a listing?
It takes most people 15-30 minutes to create a thorough listing. If you don't have time to finish, or you get interrupted, you can log back in using your email and password. Once you have created a listing you will be asked to update it annually to ensure consumers have correct information about your business.
Where does the information go?
All listings will be included in the online Local Food Guide at appalachiangrown.org, which is a publicly visible and searchable site. For a fee you can also choose to have your listing included in the printed edition of Local Food Guide, published each spring.
When I complete my listing, will it be automatically visible?
No. ASAP's staff will review your listing and ensure that it meets the criteria to become an Appalachian Grown certified farm or partner business and that all of the necessary information has been included. If there are no questions about your listing it will be approved in less than a week.
Will I be in the wholesale guide?
Only if you choose that option when filling out the application. We highly recommend choosing this option if you are interested in selling to restaurants, groceries, or other wholesale markets or if you are interested in sourcing more product from Appalachian Grown farms.
What if I don't know the email I used for my account?
Email [email protected] or call us at 828-236-1282.
What if I want to change something on my listing?
You can log in at any time to change information in your listing.
I don't like the way my picture looks. How do I fix it?
Photos look best if they are use an aspect ratio of 1000 x 750 pixels. If you don't know how to resize your picture or are having problems with it displaying properly, you can email the photo to [email protected], and we can help.
What about renewing my Appalachian Grown certification next year?
We will contact you by email and phone every year to ask that you update your Local Food Guide listing, as well as provide you with the opportunity to be in the printed edition. If we can't reach you, or you don't update your information, we will remove your farm or business from the guide, as we are committed to including accurate and up-to-date information.
How much does it cost? How do I pay?
All online listings are free! There is a cost to be included in the printed guide, which varies depending on the type of business, ranging from $30-$100. (Farmers markets are free.) There is also the option to purchase a display ad. With the purchase of a display ad, you receive a free listing. You can pay by credit card through the online system when you log in beginning in late fall/early winter.
What if I have multiple locations or businesses?
You can create and manage multiple businesses under one user, as well as create one or more listings for each of those businesses. For example, if you have a restaurant and a farm, and the restaurant has two locations, you can list the farm and restaurant each as a separate business. Within the restaurant business, you can create two listings for the two restaurant locations. Multiple listings within a single business will link to one another.
Why doesn't every farm that I purchase from have a link to their listing?
If a farm or farmers market name isn't spelled exactly how it it appears in their listing, the link will not occur. It's not a bad idea to copy and paste the farm's name from their listings when editing your page.
