About Southside Community Farm

Southside Community Farm (SCF) is a verdant oasis nestled in Asheville's historically segregated Black neighborhood of Southside. Since 2014, SCF has stood as a BIPOC-centered haven, providing solace and sustenance to the neighborhood, including four low-income public housing developments, including Erskine, Walton Street, Livingston Heights, and Bartlett Arms. In a community marked by the absence of fresh food access, SCF fosters neighborhood food sovereignty through initiatives encompassing food distribution, environmental education, racial justice, and a profound connection with the land. Spanning only 1 acre across a small urban farm plot, orchard, and medicinal herb garden, Southside Community Farm meticulously tends to a diverse array of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and native pollinator plants, employing organic practices rooted in traditional African and Indigenous wisdom. SCF transcends physical boundaries, serving not only as a source of knowledge and community for the Southside neighborhood but also extending its reach to people of color beyond. Grounded in a commitment to cultivating nourishing food for both people and the planet, SCF embodies strength, sustainability, and community empowerment.
