About Southside Community Farm

Southside Community Farm (SCF) is a verdant oasis nestled in Asheville's historically Black Southside neighborhood. Since 2014, SCF has stood as a BIPOC-centered haven, providing solace and sustenance to residents of low-income public housing developments, including Erskine, Walton Street, Livingston Heights, and Bartlett Arms. In a community marked by the absence of fresh food access, SCF emerges as a crucial lifeline, ardently fostering neighborhood food sovereignty through initiatives encompassing food distribution, environmental education, racial justice, and a profound connection with the land. Spanning only 0.75 acres, this urban farm meticulously tends to a diverse array of vegetables, fruits, and herbal medicines, employing organic practices rooted in traditional African and Indigenous wisdom. SCF transcends physical boundaries, serving not only as a source of knowledge and community for their immediate neighborhood but also extending its reach to people of color beyond. Grounded in a commitment to cultivating nourishing food for both people and the planet, SCF embodies strength, sustainability, and community empowerment.
