About Nourish Knoxville
Who We Are
Nourish Knoxville, Inc. is a Knoxville-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization cultivating healthy communities by supporting relationships
between local farmers, producers, and the public. Our work strives to
build a just and equitable food system by managing farmers markets,
providing nutrition incentive and food access programs, and developing
educational resources.
What We Do
- Our producer-only farmers markets provide low-barrier,
direct-to-consumer access to locally grown foods for our community. We
currently operate the Market Square Farmers Market, East Tennessee’s
flagship market, as well as the New Harvest Farmers Market.
- We
believe everyone has the right to nourishing, affordable local food. Our
nutrition incentive and access programs include Nourish Kids, Nourish
Moves, and Double Up Food Bucks, which increase spending power at
farm-direct sites for underserved individuals. Through Nourish
Community, we partner with community-based organizations and leverage
our relationships with local producers to purchase produce directly from
local farmers and distribute to community members in need.
- Our
East TN Local Food Guide promotes local farms, farmers markets and other
local food businesses in 36 counties in our region. The Guide, both
print and online, is a comprehensive resource for finding locally grown
food, farm products, and agritourism opportunities. The Guide also helps
producers find new customers and farmers and producers to connect
through a wholesale guide.
The guide is free and made possible
by Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (Asheville), Appalachian
Resource Conservation & Development Council (Johnson City), Gaining
Ground (Chattanooga) and a grant/cooperative agreement from the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service.
