We grow crops on our land using a unique no-till, direct seeded approach that is almost entirely petroleum and irrigation free. All work is done with hand tools and beds are dug using a broadfork and shovel. We use polyculture designs to help with pest control, weed suppression and fertility management. Our approaches adapt based on challenges and will incorporate more conventional organic approaches when necessary, but we try be as sustainable as possible while having the lowest impact on the biodiversity in our area.
For the 2022 season we will be attending the Yancey County Farmers Market in Burnsville every Saturday, May through November from 8-12. We also offer online ordering through our website fivepinefarm.org and can be contacted at [email protected] to be added to our weekly availability list. This continues throughout the winter.
.
We will have a primary focus of growing a wide variety of salad mixes year round and in the spring and summer we will be offering carrots, shishito peppers, eggplant, okra, summer squash and a variety of beans.
