About Healthy Plantet Homestead

A sub-one-acre, regenerative food forest out to make the future of food hyper local, better than organic, restorative, and fair pay. Our goal is to nurture the earth, our community, and our staff. We use no gas-powered machinery, no single-use plastics, no chemicals harmful to bees or other wildlife, pay a fair living wage, and regularly donate produce to our local community. As a tiny market farm, we grow a small amount of a huge variety of crops. Our primary crops are perennial: asparagus, rhubarb, tree and bush fruits, and edible and medicinal herbs. We also grow an extensive line of heirloom annuals, often in traditional ways, such as three sisters hills for beans, corn, and squash. We aim to provide folks with the staples they know and love, as well as introduce them to new perennial favorites that are kinder to the environment and farmers alike. We also propagate these perennial plants and make them available for sale to folks who'd like to start their own little patch of perennial paradise. Given our wide variety of produce, we also make an extensive line of farm-grown jams, jellies, pickles, elderberry syrup, and freeze-dried treats, plus medicinal salves and lip balms, and fully biodegradable castile soap/shampoo bars and conditioner bars. We also love working with professional chefs, whether it's to keep them in a steady supply of fresh herbs, or to provide the best in seasonal ephemerals. Lastly, we keep a beloved and very spoiled flock of laying hens whose waste is used to fertilize our tree crops. Find us every Saturday at the Yancey County Farmers Market, come visit our on-farm honor stand for produce and preserves!

CSA

Starting in early May and running through late December, receive a varied bag of better-than-organic produce each week grown organically and restoratively by staff earning a living wage. As we are a food forest, you'll find a large variety of perennials, ranging from asparagus and rhubarb in the spring, to peaches and blueberries in the summer, to autumn berries and blackberries in the fall. Of course you'll also find a wide range of annual vegetables--all your favorites like salad and cooking greens, carrots, tomatoes, etc., plus some crops that may be new to you, like husk cherries and kohlrabi. You'll also find specialty items like fresh herbs, edible flowers, and responsibly wildcrafted foods. Our CSA comes in three sizes: small ($15), medium ($25), and large ($35). In every bag, you'll get at least 20% more produce than you paid for each week, so you always feel like you're getting your money's worth, even if there's an item you don't enjoy. The small is perfect for one person, or two who don't eat a ton of produce, the medium is perfect for two people, or up to four who don't eat a lot of veggies, and the large is perfect for four people. If you have a larger family or eat lots of produce, you can purchase more than one share. We also offer an egg add-on (half a dozen no-soy, non-gmo eggs per week for $3, limit two per customer), and a farm treats add-on (a once-a-month selection of jams, jellies, pickles, syrups, vinegars, soaps, freeze-dried treats, lip balms, and medicinal salve made on-farm, offered at a 20% discount, in $15, $30, and $45 per month sizes). While it helps us the most for you to pay for your entire share up front, we do offer a payment plan to those who need it. We also offer a limited number of shares to those experiencing financial hardship at less than half price, and those shares can be paid for week by week at pickup. Pickup is available twice weekly on our farm in downtown Burnsvile, and once weekly in both the South Toe/Celo and Mars Hill areas.
