We make cheese from the grass fed milk of our small herd of cows on a 226 acre dairy farm located in the rolling hills of Columbus in Polk County, NC. It's nestled in the Green Creek area of horse country near Tryon, NC. We focus on producing exceptional handcrafted cheeses including fresh, blue, washed rind and hard pressed cheeses. We make both raw milk and pasteurized varieties as well as caramelized cows milk sauce (dulce de leche) and ice cream too! In addition to our dairy products, we also make small batches of hard cider from local apples, preserves, and pickles to go alongside our cheeses. Visit us for great service and a unique experience. You can shop for cheese and the best of local food or stay awhile and enjoy a cheese board. We started making cheese in 2009 and have steadily and slowly grown the business. Come visit us on the farm where you can meet a cow, soak up the beautiful views and explore the farm. While you are there, learn about cheese, see onto the production floor where we make it and peek into an underground cellar to see the wheels aging away. We are open 11am to 5pm every Thursday thru Sunday year round. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome. We sample and sell all of our cheese at the store. We also carry lots of local food products, wine by the glass, hard cider on tap and serve cheese plates too.

Visit our store on the farm in Columbus about an hour south of Asheville in the horse and wine country of Polk County. We sample and sell all our cheese, fresh to aged as well as our ice cream. Our cheese styles include cheddar and alpine varieties, fresh fromage and sometimes blue depending on the season. We also have fresh cheddar curds available on cheddar make days. In addition, we produce a line of preserves, pickles and hard cider all available to sample and enjoy on site. Stay awhile and enjoy a custom cheeseboard, look into the cellar and onto the production floor through windows. We serve wine by the glass and offer our hard cider on tap. Beautiful views abound, explore the dirt roads and walking trails on the farm, learn about cheese and see the cows on your visit. Well behaved dogs on leash permitted but not inside the fences or Farm Store.
Our store is open from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022.
On a visit to Looking Glass Creamery in Columbus expect great service and delicious cheese. At our store, we sample and sell everything we make including cheese, hard cider, pickles and preserves. We also offer other great locally made foods for sale. In early summer we have several weekends of upick sunflowers, timing varies year to year so check our social media and website for peak picking weekends. The farm is available to explore all year round with walking trails, open fields, great views, and an opportunity to learn about cheese and see it in its' natural habitat (the underground cheese cellars that is!). Find our own grass fed beef in the freezer along with our delicious pints of ice cream to go or grab a housemade cone and a scoop of our rotating flavors all made in house to enjoy while you are here. If you want it, get a cheese education from our experienced staff, and enjoy a cheeseplate with wine or hard cider while you are here. A great relaxing way to spend a little time and enjoy good food. The farm is a nice outing for a couple, a gathering of friends or bring the kids to see the animals and enjoy the open space. Plenty of opportunities to choose your own adventure.
